During the Shanxi YLP, participants from diverse background worked closely with Shanxi Pohan Farmers Association to develop a business plan to set up a for-profit organic cotton enterprise that helps connect rural farmers in Shanxi to the world’s organic cotton market. As farmers in rural China are increasingly facing challenges of the impacts of pesticide use, organic farming becomes one of the solutions to reducing pollution to the environment and health hazards to local farmers and consumers. Through the business plan of setting up a commercially and environmentally sustainable enterprise, the participants also demonstrated a possible future for retaining talents in rural China.
