Sustainable Farm Products Trading in Cambodia (April, 2009)

Eco-biz, is a social enterprise that aims to promote sustainable forestry, improve farmer income by tightening linkages along the value chain and empower rural communities in Cambodia as entrepreneurs. Lower fuel consumption technologies have been disseminated amongst the rural community. One of these technologies include the Vattanak stove for palm sugar production which uses 40% less wood compared to traditional stoves in Cambodia. Their value proposition includes ~50% increase in income of 1,500 participating households that produce environmentally friendly palm sugar. Through their operations, an estimated 3,300 ha. of forest is saved from deforestation and 10,000 tonnes of CO2 emission is reduced. Eco-Biz has capacity to produce ~150 tonnes of palm sugar during the first quarter of 2010.

Eco-Biz seeks investments of USD 500,000. Breakeven is expected in 2 years with a 5-year projected IRR of 23%.
