Thursday, 08 December 2005Business leaders must build core competenciesMr Nair made his challenge in an address to the Swiss-Asian Chamber of Commerce for ASEAN and Korea in Zurich. His luncheon presentation was entitled, "Globalisation in Asia: The Development and Leadership Challenge for Business", and sponsored by Credit Suisse.
Mr Nair focused on the challenge of globalisation for businesses as they sought new markets in Asia, the role of business in an increasingly complex world of shifting expectations, in view of the changing socio-economic and geo-political realities.
He touched on the type of leadership needed to cope with the future, the issues of ethics, governance, corporate responsibility, perverse incentives, managing diversity and decision-making processes for global companies within this complex set of demands.
Many corporations were not building the core competencies to deal with these changes, Mr Nair contended, and because of this were unable to create a competitive advantage.
He addressed the impact of the environmental aspects that Asia, and China in particular, faced.
Chandran Nair spoke at the Swiss-Asian Chamber of Commerce for ASEAN and Korea in Zurich on 9 December 2005
