The Shaheen Sports Club, a competitive hockey team from Hong Kong and one of the most diverse sports teams in the area with players hailing from Hong Kong, Pakistan, Macau and China, is proving that sports can break barriers in a city where most teams are drawn along ethnic lines. With ongoing sponsorship support from GIFT, the Shaheen Men’s A team are defending champions in their league having recently won both the Rabobank Holland Cup and Premier League as well as the Perrier-Jinnah Hockey Tournament 2009. The GIFT sponsorship is in keeping with our belief that sports is a powerful tool in building social harmony, leadership skills and multicultural understanding. In addition, assistance from GIFT will continue to enable low income children to participate in the club’s hockey program instilling positive motivation and teamwork skills in tomorrow’s leaders.
