Chandran Nair, Founder and CEO of GIFT has commenced teaching a course on leadership in Asia at the HKUST MBA Programme. This is the fourth consecutive year that Mr. Nair will be teaching at HKUST.
The course entitled, Leading in Asia for the Future addresses the challenges and opportunities presented by globalisation which demand new ways of doing business, thinking and engaging with partners and stakeholders. It also addresses the importance of understanding the voice of Asia in order to best manage in an evolving world where uncertainty prevails.
The course covers topics such as; Leadership and Globalisation, Business Ethics, Corporate Social Responsibility, Managing Diversity, Role of Government, and Civil Society in Asia.
Over the semester, students will acquire:
• Comprehensive understanding of the challenges in Asia as its embraces and confronts globalisation in all of its different forms
• Development-of-business skills that can be applied to each participant’s leadership challenges – whether in Asia or working in other parts of the world, and needing to understand Asian influence
• Practical ideas for the solution of individual business questions concerning Asian situations
• Longer-term strategy solutions for application to future business situations and business development
• Cross-sector as well as cross-cultural insights – bringing together viewpoints of internationally oriented leaders from business, government and civil society
• Understanding of divergent business practices and governance expectations in Asia
• The experience of debating and discussing contemporary issues in a classroom setting with a diverse team of participants in order to maximise learning at all levels
• Combining new thinking and leverage about practical solutions to Asian development issues
